What is agentic commerce?+
Shopping done by AI agents on a person's behalf. An assistant like ChatGPT, Gemini or Copilot finds products, compares stores, builds a cart and hands the shopper off to checkout. Stores an agent can read and transact with get recommended; stores it can't get skipped.
What is the Universal Commerce Protocol?+
An open standard Google and Shopify launched in January 2026 so AI agents can find products, build carts and check out without a custom integration for every store. Every Shopify store publishes a UCP profile at /.well-known/ucp that tells agents where its shopping endpoint is.
Can AI agents buy from my Shopify store?+
They can reach it: every Shopify store has a UCP shopping endpoint, so agents can search and build carts by default. Whether they choose your store depends on what they find there: products in stock, clear prices, and real answers about shipping and returns. This checker runs those steps and shows where an agent gets stuck.
How do I sell on ChatGPT with my Shopify store?+
Shopify connects stores to AI channels, including ChatGPT, through its agentic storefronts, which you manage in the Shopify admin. Which channels are on for your store, and in which countries, is set there. Then make sure agents can use what they find: run this checker, fix any failed steps, and give your shipping and returns policies real numbers.
Does my Shopify store have an MCP server?+
Yes, two. The storefront MCP endpoint at yourstore.com/api/mcp answers questions about your policies and FAQs. The UCP shopping endpoint, listed in yourstore.com/.well-known/ucp, handles catalog search, carts and checkout. This checker calls both.
Is the agent an AI?+
It's a scripted agent. It makes the same protocol calls an AI agent makes, in the same order, so the result shows what AI agents can and can't do in your store. We kept a language model out of it so the test gives the same answer every time.
Does the test buy anything or change my store?+
No. It builds an anonymous cart, the same as a shopper's browser does, and stops before checkout. The cart expires on its own. Nothing is bought and nothing in your store changes.
My store failed the shipping or returns question. How do I fix it?+
Agents get those answers from your store's policies and FAQs. Write clear shipping and refund policies in Shopify (Settings, then Policies), with real numbers: delivery times, costs, return windows. Generic answers can't be quoted to a shopper.
